Born Hastings, New Zealand, 1973 - Lives and Works Melbourne, Australia.

Practicing across a range of time–based media including video, photography and installation Daniel Crooks’ work has been widely exhibited both in Australia and internationally. He has undertaken residencies in Amsterdam and London and is the recipient of several major awards including the inaugural Basil Sellers Prize.

For DreamWorlds Daniel crooks presents three excerpts from Deltiology, an ambitious multi-channel video commissioned by the ANZ Bank for their new corporate headquarters in Melbourne in 2009. Presented as a series of 19 ‘postcards’ from three of the great urban centres of the Asia Pacific region, Shanghai, Ho Chi Mein and Melbourne, the work is both a meditation on time and motion and on the connection between people and place.

Through the use of sophisticated post-production techniques, the traditional cinematic model of ‘reality’ is reconfigured to offer a new way of seeing. A single slice of the video frame is spread in chronological slices across the screen creating an instantaneous moment of equilibrium. Stationary objects such as buildings and pavements become abstracted into a rhythmic sequence of chronological cross sections while moving objects (notably people) are rendered as much by their temporal as their spatial forms, smeared across time and momentarily caught in an extruded present.

Daniel crooks 为“梦幻岛”带来了DELTIOLOGY 中的三个片段—— 一部由墨尔本的ANZ银行在2009年为他们新公司总部委托制作的多频道视频。作品为我们呈现了19张“明信片”——来自亚太地区三个重要的城市中心——上海、胡志明市和墨尔本。作品既是关于时间和空间的冥想，也是人和环境的融合。

通过一系列纯熟后期技术的运用，用传统电影手法描述的“现实”被重新解构，并呈现出一种新的观看方式。每一帧视频都按照时间顺序被放大为许多帧，从而创造出一种即时性的平衡。诸如高楼大厦和人行道此类的静态物体被抽象成由时间截面组成的节奏感十足的序列，而移动物体（主要是人）则被挤压的时间和空间所涂抹，更多体现出他们的空间形态。
